Florenz Ziegfeld
The genuis behind it all
Florenz Ziegfeld created some of the most influential shows ever to appear on Broadway. Taking inspiration for the Folies Bergeres of Paris, Ziegfeld opened the doors to The Jardin de Paris on July 8, 1907 which was an enclosed roof garden atop New York Theater. This show set the stage for "glorifying the American girl". Ziegfeld understood the idea that sex sells, but girls were not meant to be vulgar, more so admired for their beauty, grace and sensuality. The setting for the shows were always over the top, it featured top stars and songs, stunning costumes, lavished surroundings, and always a bounty of beautiful women.
